Maybe you are getting comments from others that you should be less stressed, or perhaps the increased pressure you are feeling in your life has led to panic attacks and indecision. You may be struggling to create boundaries in your life that work for you, or feel completely overwhelmed by what your life demands of you. Perhaps you are feeling guilty that you are not "good enough" to do all that is needed.
Whatever it is that you are experiencing, you are beginning to notice the impact in every facet of your life:
Struggling to stay focused on tasks and be productive at work
Sacrificing your own needs in order to help others and finding it hard to ever say "no" to a request
Having difficulties sleeping due to your mind racing with constant worries and thoughts
Feeling disconnected in your relationships and unable to feel present during enjoyable activities
It may feel impossible now, but you can feel confident and self-assured. You can make choices that line up with what is important to you. You can feel proud of yourself. And I can help you get there.
Therapy for anxiety helps you do several things:
Identify your own wants and needs in you life
Practice boundary setting in your work and personal life so that you can take up more space in your life
Learn the skills for managing anxiety symptoms, both cognitive and physical techniques, so you can feel present in your life
I will help you through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to therapy for anxiety comes from a place of hope and positivity: believing that you have amazing qualities that you deserve to feel good about, and self-doubt and self-criticism need to take up less space in your mind.
Q: What are therapy sessions for anxiety like?
A: Therapy sessions will involve you telling me how you feel about things in your life. My goal is get to know you and what you want in life so I will ask you questions about your thoughts and how you perceive things in your life. Sometimes we will go back and explore where some of your thoughts and perceptions may have come from in your past. But in the immediate, we will focus on building flexibility in your thinking and try to find ways for you to do things differently in your life so that change can start to happen.
Q: How does online therapy work?
A: Online therapy works similarly to in-person therapy except that you get to be in your own comfortable space for the session and you don't have to worry about traffic getting to the office! Before each session you will receive a Google Meet video link that is your unique link to click on for our session. You can click on this link prior to our session to make sure that your phone or computer has audio and video that is working. Having a quiet and private space to have your therapy session is important so that you will feel comfortable.
Q: How will I know if therapy for anxiety is working?
A: Therapy is work and there is no easy, quick fix to healing. Therapy is your time and is about what you want to get out of it. We will work together to create a plan that aligns with your goals and lifestyle. I am always ready to hear how you feel therapy is going and we can make adjustments to our goals and strategies whenever we need to. You can also ask yourself these questions: Am I understanding more about my anxiety and how it affects me? Am I able to make decisions in my life with greater confidence? Do I have tools and strategies that I like that I can use when I feel anxious?
Q: Will I have homework after sessions?
A: That depends on what works best for you. Some people enjoy having accountability that comes with specific homework assignments and if that is the case then we will incorporate it into our plans. Homework is not a requirement though and it is not something I will push on you if it is not your style. However, we will focus on making change in your life outside of therapy by creating behavioral strategies and coping skills that you can practice as much as you like. I want you to always feel that you are leaving therapy sessions with a plan for your next steps.
Q: How much do sessions cost?
A: My fees are $195 for a 45-minute individual therapy session. I am not in-network with any insurance company and therefore I collect the full session fee at the beginning of each session.
Q: How do I get started?
A: Contact me at johanna@trocounseling.com and I will email you times for a free, 15-minute video consultation this week! In the free consultation I will answer all of your questions about my therapy style, I will ask you about your therapy needs, and we will determine whether I am a good fit for you. After that, we can move forward with setting up an initial therapy appointment, usually in the next week.
