Maybe you are getting comments from others that you are frequently distracted, or perhaps the amount of tasks in your life has left you feeling overwhelmed and indecisive about how to begin. You may be struggling to complete your day-to-day activities fully, or simply feel that you don't fit into this world like others do. Perhaps you are feeling stupid or lazy compared to others in your life.
Whatever it is that you are experiencing, you are beginning to notice the impact of this in every facet of your life:
Struggling to stay focused on tasks and be productive at work
Taking on too many projects and running out of time to complete things before their deadlines
Having difficulties sleeping due to your mind racing with constant ideas and thoughts
Feeling distracted in your relationships and unable to feel present during enjoyable activities
It may feel impossible now, but you can better understand how your brain works. You can make choices that line up with what works best for you. You can feel proud of yourself. And I can help you get there.
An adult ADHD evaluation helps you do several things:
Identify whether your current symptoms meet full criteria for an ADHD diagnosis
Receive recommendations for skills and techniques that can help you manage areas that you are struggling in
Obtain documentation that you can share with other medical providers to discuss treatment options
Q: What does an adult ADHD evaluation look like?
A: The adult ADHD evaluation starts with a comprehensive questionnaire that you complete online prior to our evaluation appointment. The evaluation process is broken up into two sessions: a clinical interview and a feedback session. The clinical interview is a 2-hour session block. Following that session we will schedule the feedback session to take place 2 weeks later. The feedback session is a 45-minute appointment. During the 2 weeks in between your appointments, I will review all the information provided and write up an evaluation summary letter that will include diagnostic information and recommendations. You will receive a .pdf copy of the evaluation summary at the feedback session. We will use the feedback session to fully review the summary letter, answer any of your questions, and I will provide you with my recommended next steps.
Q: How does an online ADHD evaluation work?
A: The online evaluation works similarly to in-person evaluations except that you get to be in your own comfortable space for the session and you don't have to worry about traffic getting to the office! Before each of the 2 sessions you will receive a Google Meet video link that is your unique link to click on for our session. You can click on this link prior to our session to make sure that your phone or computer has audio and video that is working. Having a quiet and private space to have your evaluation is important so that you will feel comfortable.
Q: Can I use the evaluation summary letter as documentation for academic or testing accommodations?
A: For purposes of academic or testing accommodations it is recommended that you review the documentation guidelines that are provided by that specific institution. However, frequently for ADHD accommodations, documentation needs to include full psychoeducational or neuropsychological testing results. This evaluation would not be sufficient for those purposes. Typically, this evaluation is best for adults looking to determine an initial diagnosis and receive documentation to provide to their medical team in order to discuss treatment options.
Q: How much does an adult ADHD evaluation cost?
A: My fees are $550 for adult ADHD evaluation. I am not in-network with any insurance company and therefore I collect the full fee at the beginning of each session. I divide the fee in half and collect $275 at the clinical interview appointment and $275 at the final feedback session.
Q: How do I get started?
A: Contact me at johanna@trocounseling.com and I will email you times for a free, 15-minute video consultation this week! In the free consultation I will answer all of your questions about my evaluation process, I will ask you about your evaluation needs, and we will determine whether I am a good fit for you. After that, we can move forward with setting up the 2-hour clinical interview appointment, usually in the next week.
